Journalism is about others – sharing their stories – and Christian journalism is about sharing others’ stories while also sharing the Gospel message.
I have always felt that the purpose of journalism is to serve the community, being meticulous and thorough and factual in reporting, and treating others as one would wish to be treated, and Christian journalism means being a bearer of truth and light. As Philippians 4:8 states, “whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” From the beginning to today, The Christian View magazine has always published truth and good news and the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
I have been a full-time journalist serving Pickens County since 1999, first as the Editor of The Pickens Sentinel (1999-2004) and as the owner, Publisher, and Editor of The Christian View (2004-present). Prior to that, when I was an English major at Clemson University, I worked part-time for three years for Clemson University’s News Services and University Relations, including writing university press releases sent to the news media (in addition to extracurricular experience, such as writing university-related stories as a staff writer for The Tiger student newspaper). I gained valuable experience both at Clemson University and at The Sentinel before starting this publication, and I have fond memories from my time at both.
I created this publication because I wanted to use journalism as a way to help share the Gospel message and to continue sharing good news from our local communities and assisting other organizations that are helping others and are sharing the Gospel.
Thank you for reading and for supporting this ministry of Christian journalism, with a purpose of reaching others for Jesus in our communities and around the world. As Jesus said in Acts 1:8, “…and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” We have a mission field in our local communities and around the world.
Thank you for supporting the work and ministry of Christian journalism.
